1946: Founded by the Torrisi Family
Originally located on Jackson Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Jackson Lumber & Millwork was founded by the Torrisi family in 1946. The company was the brainchild of Joe Torrisi, a general contractor and a Lawrence native, who recognized the need for a new type of supplier during the construction industry boom after World War II.

1960’s: Market Street Headquarters
Jackson Lumber & Millwork rapidly became a premier building materials supplier with a special focus on serving the professional builder and project-minded homeowner in Lawrence and surrounding communities. The company soon outgrew the original location and moved all operations to their current Market Street headquarters in the mid-1960s. The innovative “first in the industry” drive-through lumber yard and architectural millwork shop at the new location quickly made Jackson Lumber & Millwork a building professionals leader in the Northeast.
1982: Growth and Expansion
Joe’s son, Al Torrisi, took over as president of the company in 1982. In spite of the economic slowdown of the early 1990s, Al and his team grew Jackson Lumber & Millwork with acquisitions and new start-up locations in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The service area of the company expanded beyond the Merrimack Valley to include the greater Boston area and southern New Hampshire.
2003-2006: Millwork Plant Moves to Raymond, NH
Situated on 22 acres of land, our state-of-the-art millwork manufacturing/assembly plant, lumberyard, and store opened in Raymond, NH, in 2003. We expanded to include our door shop in 2006. This location now includes a door assembly plant, architectural millwork plant, contractor showroom, warehouse space, and lumber staging area. It is also the main base of operation for Jackson’s delivery fleet.
2008: Jackson Kitchen Designs Established
In order to showcase their extensive kitchen design experience, the company established the beautiful Jackson Kitchen Designs showroom in 2008. Located in North Andover, Massachusetts, the JKD showroom highlights the newest styles and trends in today’s modern kitchens. The skilled kitchen design staff takes pride in creating dream kitchens that fulfill the individual vision of their customers.
2012: Amesbury Location Opens
May of 2012 saw the opening of the Jackson Lumber & Millwork location in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The extensive showroom, complete hardware store, and full-service lumber yard serve customers from the northern seacoast area of Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
2012: The Next Generation
In early 2012, Al passed the leadership of the company to the next generation of the Torrisi family. Mark, Jay, and Joe Torrisi continue the tradition of being close to their customers and helping them with their project needs. Jackson Lumber & Millwork’s professional, dedicated staff shares the company values, and continues to be the cornerstone of their success.
2014: Named National Dealer of the Year
In January 2014, Jackson Lumber & Millwork was selected from 7,500 building supply dealers nationwide as the National Dealer of the Year by ProSales Magazine, becoming the first dealer in New England to receive this prestigious award.
2017: Woburn Location Opens
In October of 2017, Jackson Lumber & Millwork opened in Woburn, Massachusetts after acquiring E.G. Barker Lumber. With the full-service lumber yard and showroom conveniently situated near Rt. 93, Jackson will serve customers throughout greater Boston as well as the local Woburn area from this location.
2021: Celebrating 75 Years
In 2021 Jackson Lumber & Millwork celebrates 75 years as a family owned and operated company. We proudly continue the mission of the company to provide customers with quality products, services and solutions “on time and in full” every day.
